Miranda Florence Hill

I am a cultural producer from London, based in Berlin. My practice explores relationships between place, ecology, care and the built environment, and how these shape the ways we understand and inhabit the world. I work across curating, research and writing, and develop collaborative projects through exhibitions, public programmes, site-specific projects and participatory events.  I prioritise interdisciplinary collaborations where different languages and ways of working meet, merge and collide.

For the past two years, I led programming at the artist-led organisation Art Gene in Barrow-in-Furness, working across site-specific installations, public art, exhibitions and community projects focused on sustainability, heritage, place and ecology. I am now Associate Curator at Art Gene, where I continue to work on a project basis.

My curatorial approach is grounded in site-responsive, material-led practices and hands-on processes of making. I am inspired by post-natural landscapes where human, ecological, social and industrial histories intersect. I am interested in finding ways to listen and learn from other ecologies, to challenge human-centered perspectives and reveal the often invisible systems of care and interdependence that sustain our shared environments. My experience working in care has informed this approach and shaped my understanding of care as a practice of listening, attention and reciprocity. 

I studied History of Art at the University of Manchester and completed an MA in Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art.

Part of the England-wide Remember Nature project 2025, originally initiated by artist and activist Gustav Metzger (1926-2017). The programme brought people together through a series of cultural and artistic public interventions, encouraging collective action to 'remember nature' and respond to the climate and nature crisis.








Remember Nature: Intra-actions was a group exhibition featuring artists Alistair Debling, Faye Matloub and Maddi Nicholson. I developed the curatorial framework, collaborated with the artists, authored all exhibition texts and the accompanying essay, led exhibition production, and developed the public programme as part of Art Gene’s contribution to the national programme.

The exhibition explored how we might reconnect and re-root ourselves in ecology - understood as the land, living systems, and social relations - through practices of art, food, and care.
My writing brought together the exhibition’s conceptual framework, drawing on ecological thinking to examine how  constructs such as colonialism, industrialisation, and class-based systems have led to a disconnection between people and their environments - reducing the land to a resource to be used, rather than a living environment that exists in mutual relationship with us. 

Responding to the specific context of Barrow-in-Furness - a remarkable town built on industrial extraction and social systems that have separated people from the land - the exhibition and writing explored food, food growing, and shared meals as spaces of memory, care, and possible ecological repair. These practices were understood as ways of grounding knowledge in place and reconnecting to each other, the land and all ecologies. 

Day of Action

Tuesday 4th November, 2025, marked the 10-year anniversary and new staging of the visionary art project Remember Nature. It was delivered in partnership with 15 regional arts partners across England, curators Andrea Gregson and Jo Joelson with the Serpentine. The programme brought people together through a series of cultural and artistic public interventions, encouraging collective action to 'remember nature' and respond to the climate and nature crisis.

As part of the Day of Action, we hosted a communal feast, prepared by Faye Matloub with produce from Art Gene's own organic site Allotment Soup: the Isle of Walney Community Growing Space to celebrate and thank everyone who contributed to the development of the project throughout Spring 2025.

The meal was followed by artist talks held in the Art Gene Gallery featuring Alistair Debling, Faye Matloub, and Maddi Nicholson of Art Gene.

Metzger believed that art could help us remember our connection to the world around us and inspire action. His challenge to systems that harm the land we depend on felt particularly relevant in Barrow-in-Furness, where industrial and social histories have shaped relationships between people and place.

To ‘remember nature’ is therefore not simply an act of nostalgia, but an urgent, political, ethical and sometimes playful act. It’s a way of reconsidering our relationship with the world around us -and in this intsance, through memory, imagination, care, and collective action .
